Paola Maynard-Moll, also known as Pao, grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She came to Massachusetts in 2002 for her undergraduate studies and has been living in the Commonwealth ever since. Pao worked for three years in the Massachusetts Legislature, most recently as the Legal Counsel for the Joint Committee on Revenue, where she focused on state fiscal policy and revenue reform. Prior to working on the committee, she assisted the constituents of Lexington, Woburn, and Arlington as state Representative Jay Kaufman’s Legislative Aide. Pao graduated from Bentley College in 2006, where she studied English Literature, and Northeastern University School of Law in 2011. Through Northeastern’s cooperative legal education program she previously co-op’ed in the Executive Office for Administration and Finance during Governor Deval Patrick’s administration, and in the Senate General Counsel’s Office. Through these experiences in state government, Pao developed interest and expertise in state budget and tax policy issues. Outside of her professional life, Pao is Co-Director of the Boston chapter of the New Leaders Council – a leadership training fellowship for young progressive professionals. Having been chosen as a Fellow in 2013, she then co-led the fellowship’s main program, the NLC Institute, in 2014, and has now taken on co-leadership of the chapter as a whole. Pao is also an active member of her community in Newton, MA, where she’s lived for over 8 years with her wife and welcomed their first son in 2014.
