Paola Maynard-Moll, also known as Pao, grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
As Director of Policy, Pao has helped researchers build relationships with policymakers and civic leaders in some 30 states, on issues ranging from education to taxation to economic development. Pao is the primary staff contact person for SSN with national civic organizations, and supervises SSN's policy staff and post-doctoral fellows program.
Pao came to Massachusetts in 2002 for her undergraduate studies and has been living in there ever since. Pao worked for three years in the Massachusetts Legislature, most recently as the Legal Counsel for the Joint Committee on Revenue, where she focused on state fiscal policy and revenue reform. Prior to working on the committee, she assisted the constituents of Lexington, Woburn, and Arlington as a Legislative Aide to State Representative Jay Kaufman. Pao graduated from Bentley College in 2006, where she studied English Literature, and earned a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 2011. Through Northeastern’s cooperative legal education program she previously worked in the Massachusetts Executive Office for Administration and Finance, and in the Senate General Counsel’s Office. Through these experiences in state government, Pao developed interest and expertise in state budget and tax policy issues. Pao is a graduate and former Co-Director of the Boston chapter of the New Leaders Council – a leadership training fellowship for young professionals. Pao is also an active member of her community in Newton, MA, where she’s lived for over eight years with her wife. They welcomed their first son in 2014.
