As Executive Director, Avi Green takes operational responsibility for furthering the Scholars Strategy Network’s mission as a staff-supported, member-led organization.
From 2006 to 2012, Avi served as Executive Director of MassVOTE, where he worked to reduce racial and economic disparities in voting, political participation, and civic power in Massachusetts. For his work, Avi was awarded the NAACP Boston Branch’s Kivie Kaplan Humanitarian Award and was appointed to the Massachusetts Ballot Law Commission by Governor Deval Patrick.
As part of the 2010 redistricting process, Avi served on the Massachusetts Local Election District Review Commission and led a large coalition that led the state to vastly increase the number of majority-minority districts. Avi also chaired the Boston Elections Advisory Committee, where he reformed poll worker training and recruitment. Avi studied grassroots organizing as a JOIN for Justice fellow in 2000. In that same year, Avi participated in the Florida recount. Avi studied at Columbia University (BA Religion and Mathematics) and Harvard University (Masters in Public Policy).
Avi lives in Cambridge, MA, with his wife, Sarah Almer, and daughter, Rachel.
