McKibben’s writing focuses on climate change and its effects, and his civic involvement has centered on climate organizing. He founded, with seven undergraduates, 350.org, which has become the world’s largest grassroots climate campaign. In 2011 he led the organizing for what turned into the largest civil disobedience action in 30 years in the United States, protesting the Ketstone XL Oil Pipeline.
McKibben has been a frequent contributor to the New York Review of Books, National Geographic, and many other publications; he regularly appears as a guest on television programs including the Late Show with David Letterman, Charlie Rose, and Stephen Colbert’s The Colbert Report.
Talks and Briefings
McKibben’s peaking schedule usually exceeds 150 addresses annually. His latest large-scale speaking tour was the “Do the Math” tour (information about which is available at math.350.org) from November to December of 2012, with 21 sold-out appearances at large venues across the country.
