Areas of Expertise & Civic InvolvementsSchumacher’s research focuses on sociodemographic and socioeconomic indicators of risk for poor school readiness and the use of risk indexes to inform early childhood policy. She has also conducted research on measurement issues in program evaluation, social determinants of health, and statistical literacy; has served as program evaluator for several federally funded higher education programs, with a focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields; and has volunteered as a peer reviewer for annual meetings of the American Evaluation Association.
